02.17.23 - T3 Teams and Hiring Great People

I have a 1:1 package that I don’t promote or talk about often.
It’s $150k and I only take you if I’m interested in becoming a partner w/equity in the future.
Clients have to be at $3m/year or more to qualify and it is the full suite of my brain, network, processes & core team at your disposal.
The goal for these clients is, at a micro level, to go through a set of audits, assessments & frameworks that either “buy revenue” or “buy time.”
You can buy both, but buying both at the same time is costly in other areas (such as energy, balance, physicality, etc). The key is picking one per 6-month cycle and buying as much of it as you can…
At a macro level, it’s to vet them for partnership (and allow them to vet me for the same).
Today I’m doing an offsite with a client and so the notes, outcomes, and frameworks are tall top of mind right now. Let me take you through some of them...
OPPORTUNITIES
OBSTACLES
WASTE
TEAM
In every business there are thousands of opportunities… but categorically, you have two main kinds:
1. Obvious
2. Hidden
The obvious opportunities are frequently missed not because the owner cannot see them but because of the third thing in the list above — WASTE.
Too much waste in a person’s calendar/headspace = they will not pursue the obvious opporutnities.
But one of the more fascinating categories of opportunity is the HIDDEN opportunity type.
These are often easy to capitalize on because they’re sitting in plain sight and ready to go, just, unseen.
Strategic partnerships.
Alliances.
Things people are ASKING for but it’s getting blocked at the support level.
Etcetera…
You want to assess these every 90 days — both the obvious and the hidden…
OBSTACLES are common and you will actually only fully remove them when you stop changing. Growth is a form of change so if you have no obstacles you have no growth and that’s a horrible place to be.
You want to be surrounded by healthy, positive, profitable OBSTACLES (profitable only if you solve or remove them).
This is attitudinally important…
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in a room, on a stage, or with a client and they’re just so dam negative they can’t see straight.
“This is bad.”
“This isn’t good.”
“This is not working well.”
No sh*t Sherlock…
Yesterday I talked with a guy who does an 8-mile walk every other day. He’s coached gurus, athletes, billionaire hedge fund managers…
After the first 5 minutes he said “I like you — I can tell by your tone of voice exactly who you are, and it is good.”
I asked him what he does on these walks and he said he rehearses (OUT LOUD) the things he wants to be true.
For 8 miles.
That’s like… several hours. Steady, methodical, positive self-talk.
You will not grow past the places in your life that bother you until you fix your words & attitudes in relationship to those places. That said — there are very simple ways to remove obstacles if they’re the right ones to be removed.
Next is WASTE.
This is a fun one.
You have AT LEAST a dozen hours in your week that you can get back, immediately, tomorrow, without losing ANY profit, margin, productivity or momentum.
In fact, you’ll get MORE of all of these things if you can re-harvest these 12 hours in a way that makes you happy.
You’re not too busy.
You’re just unfocused and not aware of where your time is being wasted.
TEAM — this is an area of great pride for me.
I have developed systems & managerial templates for team that I’ve never seen from anyone else before.
T3 teams is one of my frameworks.
Types of delegation is another…
When you get your TEAM right, you can do MORE and do it BETTER.
Many people think they have A-players but they are just defending decisions and justifying inadequacy.
If you get in a convo with me ever about team you will need to be prepared to be ruthlessly honest about the people you’ve surrounded yourself with and how they are both (a) helping and (b) hurting your forward trajectory…
