05.07.22 - Being a good parent, partner, and Twitter
Hello friends, and happy Saturday.
Yesterday morning, I walked out of my home office to head to a meeting at the “real” office and my daughter was in the living room…
Dressed like Elsa from Frozen (we’re on a Frozen kick right now). She said “Daddy I want you to dance with me.”
And I had a decision to make:
Be on time for my meeting, tell Kate (my daughter) I would dance with her later
Text to say I’ll be late, and dance with my daughter
Moments like these do not come all the time — but when they do present themselves, you should make the right choice. I texted my assistant and let her know I’d be a bit late to the office.
They pushed the meeting back, and then, Kate and I danced. We danced for 15 minutes and laughed, told each other jokes and then she walked me out to my car.
I will never regret that decision.
It’s important for you to identify now what your priorities are going to be. You do not need to “CHOOSE” to be a good business person or be a good parent, or partner, or friend.
That is a false dichotomy that will always lead you to settle for less (either/or when you could’ve had both).
I have two things for you today, besides this lesson.
The first - a new YouTube video that dropped yesterday. I talked about the story above, and also a lot more. If you want a sneak peak into my life— click here and watch (it’s 20 minutes long but worth the investment).
The second thing - I’m re-publishing the world famous “MEMO.” Years ago, I wrote a monthly memo, hand delivered to your mail from my offices in Nashville TN. It got big, like real big.
At the end, we had 20,000 people subscribed and reading voraciously each month.
I could publish 1,000 pages and still not transfer a fraction of what I know about consulting, offers, business dynamics, partners, funding, etc etc etc. But these memos are a great start — they’ll teach you how I think about marketing, advertising, deal structure, lending, sales, and a whole host of other things.
Only subscribe to these if you’re looking for a meaty tactical letter that will also make you feel better about what you are building. Those two things rarely come in one package.
Link is here — use the coupon code “FOUNDER” and I’ll reward you for your early adoption. That coupon expires in a couple days, can’t remember when — but sometimes soon.
That’s all I have for you today.
Please let me know if there’s anything urgent you need help on. Thanks for being here… and have an absolutely terrific weekend!
