07.11.22 - Priorities Matter
For the first 2 years of my daughters life, I worked.
I was “there,” but I wasn’t.
My wife put her to bed 90% of the time.
I was gone early in the morning so didn’t see her in the AM either. We ate dinner together and I was half focused on her, half reading slack reports.
“There,” but not.
She turned 3 in April, and something shifted.
I saw clearly for a second — one day, she will fall asleep and I’ll carry her up to bed, turn the lights off and kiss her goodnight for the last time.
One day she will ask me to sit down and play with her for the last time.
One day I will wake her up and she will ask if we can just sit and snuggle for the last time.
I’m going to be there until that happens.
I’m glad I learned when she was 3… many don’t realize until their kids are 13, 18, or 30.
You can build an empire AND be there for your family. These are false dichotomies. Take them both.
Win them both.
When one is sacrificed for the other it is almost always a regrettable trade; and a trade made for no reason.
Happy Monday - enjoy the moments!
