I sent a message to my leadership team yesterday (we're meeting end of the month for our FIRST ever quarterly roundtable — CRAZY!).
For our “Modern Day Consultant” program, in Phase II, we go into a bit of teaching/training on TEAM, roles, org charts, quarterly/annual planning, etc.
BUT this post isn't about that...
It's about philosophy.
More specifically, the philosophy you use to construct your business.
Anything built with bad philosophy will eventually become unenjoyable to you… because you’ll build something you did not actually want 👎
Anyways, here was the message:
PART 1:
“The metric / barometer on a great business or system:
✅ If we change nothing and “wait it out” for 12 months we WIN.
The byproduct of a bad business or system:
🛑 If we change nothing and “wait it out” for 12 months we go backwards or DIE.
This is why I’m obsessed with 50% of revenues coming from recurring.
But applies to our burn also.
If we DON’T grow at all for 12 months are we set up to still win? If so we are doing it right.”
There’s a second part to this — but let’s digest this first:
The “GROW AT ALL COSTS” worked for Amazon but likely will not work long term for you. The internet isn’t brand new & as consultants, we are in the SERVICE business. People being HAPPY and satisfied with the service is IMPORTANT.
The key to winning long term is you have to be in this “long term.” Too many cash grabs in the market are getting really big, really fast (some of whom are just following in the footsteps laid for them) and it’s going to be a pain fixing later.
Notice the emphasis on the message above:
Safe
Secure
Predictable
Reliable
These are things you want to form your business around.
(And this doesn’t even include MOATS which is a whole new level of security - we’ll talk on that probably during the AUGUST Memo Call-In, available to all memo subscribers)
PART 2:
“The GOAL is zero stress. If a business target is causing stress, we change the target:
✅ the number
✅ or the timeline
ENJOYMENT is an actual asset that can’t go on the balance sheet but it should — it affects everything on it. We must enjoy the growth.”
Translation:
Money is an inferior asset class.
It’s important that you get some — if you’re talented & expert at something, you deserve it. There’s a lot of money psychology we get into — I’m not saying money is BAD… I’m saying you must have a hierarchy to prioritize your time & life around (and money should probably not be #1 at all times).
I enjoy an incredible living… I haven’t wanted for money in a very long time. But it is NOT worth the trade most people make for the getting of the money (time, peace, confidence, etc).
You can have both / and but most people simply never learn how.
Until you learn to DESIGN the perfect “outcome,” you will struggle to put your time & effort into creating it (makes sense, super basic, but most miss it). My priority in this season is creating moments with the people that matter most to me (WHILE making plenty of money helping people grow).
After reading this — what are your lessons?
What do you FEEL?
And what are you committed to changing in your business?

I feel like not being 100% on/in the business while it continues growing is kinda wanting too much. Everything is changing crazy fast and without you constantly looking what's ahead - the machine will just crash.
